The Bruce Fiction Writing Project:
I am proud to say my first fiction book is live and published. It is a great story – and I am not just saying that because I wrote it. I sought to write a page-turner, and I have pulled that off. People who start the book are annoyed that it is the middle of the night and they should go to sleep, but they can’t stop reading just one more chapter to find out what will happen next. If you don’t believe me, read the reviews or — better yet — give the book a try.
A quote from a friend was this: “I started this book two days ago and I am now on page 600. It has been messing up my businesses since I keep reading the book instead of doing my work.”
I now have over 200 reviews with an (impressive) 4.6 on Amazon and 4.4 on Goodreads.
I am also happy that, despite the huge headwind from me being a First-Time-Author — the book has already won several awards including a prestigious Pembroke (second place) award for Historical Fiction.
The book is titled: Faythe of North Hinkapee: The saga of a young woman’s quest for justice and love in Colonial America
I wrote Faythe under the pseudonym of James T. Hogg, which has its own website.
The book is historical fiction set in Colonial America during the Salem Witchcraft Trials. It is similar in genre to Ken Follett’s Pillars of the Earth, and if you enjoyed that epic tale, the odds are that you will like my story.
The book was published on March 12th of 2024 as an e-book and is now also available in paperback. You can buy it here: https://bit.ly/3IojeLr
It is also available on Kindle Unlimited
By the way, a review on Amazon is quite helpful to me as a first-time author, so if you enjoy the book, please feel free to leave me a review.
Here is some background about Faythe of North Hinkapee:
This epic story of love and revenge features a heroine as untamed as seventeenth-century colonial America. Faythe is an utterly non-conforming heroine living within the strictures of seventeenth-century colonial America, where young women are to be seen and not heard. But Faythe is having none of that! Join this valiant woman in her epic journey of love and justice. Faythe’s quest carries you along through romance, betrayal, wickedness, heartbreak, and love, all the way to its breathtaking conclusion.
The book will appeal to fans of Ken Follett’s Pillars of the Earth — as it is a similarly epic tale with vivid, unforgettable characters and a creative exciting plot culminating in a satisfying conclusion where all missing pieces weave together.
…
Faythe Emily Wentworth was taught by her father how to fight, and she never shies from a conflict, no matter the odds. In her small settlement town, she must always be on guard. She is especially wary of one of the Downing brothers who taunt her, longing to take her, threatening to do so by force . . .
Faythe’s little sister Chloe is different. She is sweet-tempered, always seeing the good in others, and never suspecting ill intent.
Chloe’s innocence is shattered in a vicious attack, and Faythe is determined to seek vengeance and justice for her sister and, later, her family. Armed with a knife and a burning obsession, Faythe fights the superstitions and injustices that have led to her family’s destruction.
“They will pay for what they have done to my sister,” thought Faythe as she rode her panting horse into the darkness of the forest night….away from the accursed town of North Hinkapee.
On her journey of vengeance, the young woman finds unlikely aid from a former prostitute, a genteel swordsman, and a Native American woman who can put an arrow through the eye of a needle at fifty paces. Not to mention the cadre of young men whose own desires inflame her own . . . and serve to distract her from her mission.
My hope is readers will become thoroughly invested in these compelling characters, so richly and beautifully presented. I’ve attempted to create a world where girls and women of all cultures are equal, even superior, to the male characters around them.
The book is a non-stop rush of historical fiction in the grandest sense, appealing to all genders and ages.
