Renaissance Man:
The various definitions of a Renaissance Man include everything from poetry, to music, to dancing, to horseback riding, wrestling and fighting as a swordsman. It can be defined as one with wide interests and certain areas of expertise. Alternatively, someone with sharp perspective, deep experience and who seeks knowledge for knowledge’s sake, and relentless curiosity.
If you give me a free pass on horseback riding (not for me as too dangerous) and equate my years of martial arts experience as substituting for wrestling and fighting and swordplay, I think I am on my way here.
And — yes — this is the perfect arena for a man in his sixties isn’t it. Indeed, it would be hard for a Young Guy to have so many skill sets and depth of knowledge. So Viva La Renaissance Man for us Old Guys!
A Man’s Man – this is a delicate subject as I don’t want to be thought of like a frat boy. But on the other hand I like a fine scotch, a cigar, and having male friends to hang out with and, well, be with the guys. At the same time I want to be a Woman’s Man. To be clear, this does not mean a ladies man. I am a one-woman man 100% and have been such for now over 40 years. But I do hope to be a man who respects women, inspires them and backs them 100%. Could I add here, as a friend has called me:
Polished and sleek with an intellectual and even aristocratic air — but approachable – academic yet modern
Dressing Up – I still wear a suit and a tie and really like, well, dressing up! I am one of the last who wears a suit and tie and even wrote a poem about it, called Lonely Guy in a Suit and Tie. I have struggled however with casual dress. I am replete with stories of going to a nice store and buying all sorts of stuff that no matter how you look at it, just doesn’t match. I think I might finally be getting a little better though. What do you think?
